As I mentioned last week, I found a focus for my poetry explorations by taking poetry to history, particularly family history and genealogy. Outside of weekly articles, I'm focusing on poetic birthdays and linking them to their pages at WikiTree on my Facebook (FB) Page, Goin’ Poetic.
You can learn if you're related to any given poet by clicking on a link at Goin’ Poetic. Unfortunately for the algorithm at FB, I am required to post links in the comments, so look there. I began this practice three days ago with Maya Angelou. Today's birthday boi is William Wordsworth, and you can find him at this Wikitree link for Wordsworth and his kin.
This is the fun part: You need to create a free account at Wikitree and upload or build a tree to make use of it, then you can try this out…if you click on Wordsworth’s link, then scroll to the bottom of the page until you come to this solitary sentence: “See your connection or your genealogical relationship with William.”
I discovered that I am connected to Wordsworth through my father’s paternal line, which is a shock because most notable people in my lineage are usually on my mother’s side. We are 11th cousins 6 times removed, but I'm also connected by 19 degrees through marriage. Which means there were a few cousin connections in there somewhere.
Join me at Goin’ Poetic Facebook for poets’ birthdays and other tidbits, and here at Substack to learn more about the stories I post at the Goin’ Poetic website.
For Wikitree to help you work out your connection to Wordsworth or any notable profile you will need to create an account and connect your family tree.
